Integrated Systems Training

The Foundation

Integrated Systems Training (IST) is a method of martial arts training based on research, experimentation and application of combat arts from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, France, China and the United States. The purpose is to draw from effective fighting arts to develop a functional self defense and fighting method that works for the individual at all ranges of combat. Weapons based training is a core component of our training sessions.

How and What We Teach

Integrated Systems Training draws from the concept of making the arts work for the individual as opposed to a one-size-fits-all, fixed curriculum. In other words, it's not the system that makes an effective fighting method, it's the individual's application. Training is tailored to fit the student and their goals based on individual factors including age, occupation, physical abilities and desired outcomes. IST does not offer rankings or certifications. Instead, we strive to share with devoted students whose primary goal is expanding their knowledge.

Instruction is heavily influenced by Filipino and Southeast Asian Martial Arts including Kali, Panantuken and Silat, as well as Muay Thai (Thai Boxing), Krabi Krabong, Wing Chun, Boxing and Jeet Kune Do. There is extensive training in bladed weapons techniques as well as blunt weapons with these methods also serving as the basis for empty hand striking techniques.

Training Lineage

My time training under the world's leading Filipino Martial Arts practitioner and teacher, Guro Dan Inosanto, who has led me down a path of research & enlightenment for 15 years and counting, serves as the primary foundation for my instruction.

Averaging over 400 hours per year training at

the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts in Marina Del Rey, CA has provided a comprehensive understanding of the arts that I teach. I hold instructor certification under Guro Dan Inosanto in Filipino Martial Arts, Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kune Do and Silat, as well as Associate Instructor ranking in Muay Thai under Ajarn Chai Sirisute, the founder of World Thai Boxing Association.

As a perpetual student, I continually seek knowledge from a wide array of sources including Sifu Francis Fong (Wing Chun), engage in supplemental training in Filipino Kali methods from instructors in various Escrima systems such as Villabrille, Pekiti Tirsia and Balintawak, and attend seminars in Savate, Lethwei, Muay Thai and Western Boxing.

Common Questions

What you need to know to begin training.

After decades in Los Angeles, I have relocated to San Diego, CA. I continue to train & teach regularly in Los Angeles as well as locally in San Diego.

Training is done in private one-on-one sessions or in small groups of 4-6 students max. This is the preferred method for tailoring high-quality, individualized instruction.

Training is adjusted to account for age, mobility and desired outcomes.

  • Martial arts practitioners seeking to expand their skills & understandings.
  • Individuals looking for practical and effective self defense training.
  • Local and federal law enforcement officers.
  • Actors and stunt people looking to build skills for use in television and films.
  • Security industry personnel.

Training sessions are held either at your private residence or in a public space such as a park. Seminars are held at the host's location.

Most equipment is provided but it's recommended that you purchase your own boxing gloves. Pads, sticks and other training weapons are provided.

Please reach out via the contact form for specifics, but private training sessions are at least one hour and the cost is consistent with training privately or semi-privately with an instructor experienced in these arts. Seminars typically run several hours and are held on weekends. Please contact me with your interests and questions.
