Integrated Systems Training

The Foundation

Integrated Systems Training (IST) is a method of martial arts training based on the approach of research, experimentation and application of combat arts primarily from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, France, China and the United States. The purpose is to draw from effective fighting arts to develop a functional self defense and fighting method that works for the individual instead of trying to fit an individual into one system. IST is derived from the Inosanto Method with all due respect to Guro Dan for his devotion to sharing his vast knowledge with his students worldwide.

My Training & Lineage

My time training under the world's leading Filipino Martial Arts practitioner and instructor, Guro Dan Inosanto, has led me down a path of research & enlightenment for nearly two decades. This training serves as the primary foundation for my instruction.

Averaging over 400 hours each year training at

the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts in Los Angeles under Guro Dan has provided a comprehensive understanding of the arts that I train and teach. I've held multiple instructorships under Guro Dan for many years in Kali, Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kune Do and Silat. I'm an Associate Instructor in Muay Thai under Ajarn Chai Sirisute, the founder of the World Thai Boxing Association.

As a perpetual student, I continually invest in my training by seeking opportunities around the country including from Sifu Francis Fong (Wing Chun) in Atlanta, engage in supplemental FMA training in various systems including Doce Pares, Kalis Ilustrisimo, Villabrille, Pekiti Tirsia and Balintawak. I also train in Savate, Lethwei (Burmese Boxing) and boxing.

How and What I Teach

Instruction is heavily influenced by Filipino & Southeast Asian Martial Arts including Kali, (Escrima, Arnis), Maphilindo Silat and various Pencak Silat disciplines including Harimau & Mande Muda, Panantuken (Dirty Boxing) as well as Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) and Jeet Kune Do. In addition, we'll train in Krabi Krabong, Wing Chun, and Western Boxing. Bladed weapon training techniques are emphasized with these methods also serving as the basis for empty hand striking techniques.

The concept: Make the arts work for the individual as opposed to a one-size-fits-all, fixed curriculum. Training is tailored to fit the student and their goals based on individual factors including age, occupation, physical abilities and desired outcomes. I do not offer rankings or certifications. Instead, I share with my students to expand their knowledge so they can evolve individually.

Common Questions

What you need to know to begin training.

After decades in Los Angeles, I have relocated to San Diego, CA. I continue to train & teach regularly in Los Angeles as well as locally in San Diego.

Training is done in private one-on-one sessions or in small groups of 4-6 students max. This is the preferred method for tailoring high-quality, individualized instruction.

Training is adjusted to account for age, mobility and desired outcomes.

  • Martial arts practitioners seeking to expand their skills & understandings.
  • Individuals looking for practical and effective self defense training.
  • Local and federal law enforcement officers.
  • Actors and stunt people looking to build skills for use in television and films.
  • Security industry personnel.

Training sessions are held either at your private residence or in a public space such as a park. Seminars are held at the host's location.

Most equipment is provided but it's recommended that you purchase your own boxing gloves. Pads, sticks and other training weapons are provided.

Please reach out via the contact form for specifics, but private training sessions are at least one hour and the cost is consistent with training privately or semi-privately with an instructor experienced in these arts. Seminars typically run several hours and are held on weekends. Please contact me with your interests and questions.
